Childhood Game

In this task, we were told to choose a childhood game that we like and then from there give it elements that can change the game and make it better and interesting.

With that taken note of, my choice of game was 'Truth Or Dare'. The reasons of the game were :

  • Was a popular game with children and still is.
  • Easy to play with a certain number of people.
  • Fun and cant get boring as easily.
Ways in which i was going to make this game better were :

  •  To have a more organised selection of the 'dares' that are done in the game. I was to have a deck of cards with certain dares where the selected person picks from the deck for his dare when the bottle spins on him.
  • To refine the game more, i was going to have  a set of players, 6 max sit around in a circle with a spin board having 'truth' or 'dare' on it. There after, a bottle will be spun and the first spin will indicate which player is to be chosen. After that, the selected player then spins the bottle on the spin board and waits to see what his option will be, either 'truth' or 'dare' Thereafter, he picks out his optional card from the deck and does what is required.
Sketches of how the game would look are down below including mind maps and ideas of the game.

In thoughts of how i was going to package the game and the outcome of it. I thought about these points :

  • What bottle would i use?
  • Will it attract alot of people to play?
  • Will be as easy-to-do type of game?
  • Is this game worth changing?

With those points in analysis i then later changed the game and gave it a twist, not only just emphasizing on the 'dare' part of the game, i added the 'truth or 'dare' element onto which i would fuse in both games and make them one and more interesting. Reasons for this are :

  • More tasks to do (Truth included)
  • Would have a sensible packaging
  • Would be able to pull in a sensible crowd
  • Adds more flavor with both games fused in one.
The ways i was going to enhance the game are listed below :

  • Going to have a set cards, two decks which will include 'truth' and 'dare' and they would be atleast be 10 each.
  • The bottle will be used to pick out the player in the game and also the option either truth or dare.
How the game would be played - is more defined with what i would refine.

  • 6 players sit around a circle.
  • Bottle is spun to select the player.
  • Selected player then spins for the options on the board, 'truth' or 'dare'.
  • Selected player then picks out his card from either of the options and carries it out.
  • Game continues after player is done.
After analyzing that, had to come up with a certain mood or feel that i would to my game. This called for a moodboard to be made and this would show a general type of feel of what my game would have. I wanted my game to have a retro/pop feeling to it. This meant to have a variety of colors, bright colors, some repeatation of designs and vibrant colors. After taking down all that, this was my mood board for my game.

One can see my choice of colors was bright, red, yellow, blue, purple being some of the colors you would notice at first sight. For me, this was a foundation where i can lay my design and work around this so that i can have consistence around my work and not show different variations of my work.

Mood board done, I then started to create my game box, which was going to have a lid (30CM x 30CM) and a bottom ( 28.5CM x 28.5CM) where all my stuff was to go in. After getting my specifications right and my spin board of 26CM x 26CM, my design started.

Front Design

My front design was one that was going to give out the game to a customer where when they see it, they get attracted to it and want to see more.

  • Used color red for my main feel to have that 'alarming' feel to a customer
  • Different colors in boxes to give that retro design.
  • Text with shadows of different colors to show variation of vibrance feel in colors.
  • Graphical content the lips and question marks in the boxes were to emphasize more on the 'truth' or 'dare' feel. The lips showing where the dare would be out of the lips the question mark to show one not knowing what they'll pick or what dare/truth they'll be asked.
Bottom Design

My bottom design was more simple and didnt have much detail on it besides the game lables that were to be on the sides, this was to save on time and the game giving out to much detail.

Spin Board

My spin board was going to give it the 'wow' when you open the box, where as the red gave it that alarming to see the game, the spin board doesnt just give out the same red feel as the front and bottom but different colors as well to show the colorful side of the game. Different colors were used to compliment each other as can see and the text around was to show where the bottle would point when spun.

Card Design

The above are the cards that will be placed in the box, the truth or dare cards. Different coloring but same design was to show the different cards but still show consistence.

With those designs laid out and design it was time to place these on the board that was going to use to apply these stickers onto the board.

This was the final product of my packaging of the game :
