Magazine Task

The task that was given was to know the meanings of rows, columns, gutter, margin and the likes. More of a page layout task, where we define and then have exams of different variation on where we can see the above page layout points being used.
With that in line, i defined the following points belowed :

  • Rows - details that is in a horizontal line.
  • Columns - details that are in a vertical line.
  • Gutter - The white space formed by the inner margins of two facing pages, as of a book.
  • Margin - The blank space bordering the written or printed area on a page.
After defining some of the terms, set out to apply those where we would find them in a magazine and for this had a ruler, magazine and pencil with tracing paper.

Placing the tracing paper ontop of the magazine page made it easy to see where columns, rows and so on were located so after noticing that, got the ruler and made boxes to show where these were located. Same process was carried for the 3 pages and you could see that every page has its own variation.

Fig 2

Can see that the pages had a different gutter on the rows and columns in the text and the gutter size was constant between each other.
